Feb 5, 1971 Sara Lynn Evans born in Boonville, Missouri. She was the oldest girl amongst seven children in all; raised on a poor family farm in Boonesboro 1975 Sara begins performing at PTA meetings, country fairs, bluegrass festivals, & on the school bus driven by her mom Nov, 1977 Matt, Sara, Jay, & the rest of the Evans Family Band appear on the 15th annual Lee Mace's Ozark Opry Search for Talent June 21, 1979 (5:30pm) Sara struck by a car in front of parents home, suffering two broken legs July 26, 1979 Sara leaves hospital in wheelchair after weeks in Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville leaves with 2 garbage bags of toys, 336 cards, $131, and $10,000 hospital bill. Attempts to earn the money back by performing with her family band on weekends 1979/80 Continues to play American Legion Halls, talent contests and PTA meetings while still in a wheelchair following the accident 1981 Sara (10), brothers Jay (16) & Matt (13), sisters Leslie (6) & Ashley (4), along with Mike Blackburn, Kevin Bates, and David Simms make up the "Sara Evans Show," traveling Missouri in a green motor home March 16, 1981 Records two 45 rpm records in Nashville; already involved in discussions with major record labels 1982 Set up a booth and begins to plug a single at Fan Fair 1987 Begins playing a 2,000-capacity dancehall called the Country Stampede, near Columbia, MO, every Saturday night Summer 1989 Sara graduates from New Franklin High School; wins a singing scholarship to Central Methodist College in Fayette, but stays only 11 days 1991 Sara and Matt, with $1,500 in their pockets, move to Nashville and work at the Holiday Inn on Briley Parkway Sept 20, 1991 Craig and Saras first date, after meeting at Holiday Inn May, 1992 The two move to Craig's native Oregon, where they work together in the group North Santiam Sept 25, 1993 Sara and Craig Schelske marry in Sara's hometown Fall 1995 Sara and Craig return to Nashville where Sara begins recording demos for publishing companies December, 1995 Harlan Howard hears Sara singing a demo of his classic "I've Got a Tiger by the Tail," prompting the writer to bring her to the attention of RCA Records March, 1996 Sara auditions for RLG Chairman, Joe Galante. Sara sings "One Girl Cried," forgets the words, and still lands a seven-record deal with RCA
